About Get Out Of Your Head

Our mission is to offer affordable counseling conducted by highly qualified practitioners to people from all walks of life.

Our goal is to be inclusive, welcoming, and accepting of all of our clients and patients.

Our passion is waking up each day to serve humanity by making a positive impact on the people we have the privilege to encounter.

Our Founding Story

The journey of this practice began in 2015 out of necessity. Co-founder AshleyDawn, while navigating her own financial challenges, working multiple jobs, and finding herself in need of affordable therapy, recognized a critical gap: high-quality, affordable mental health care was practically non-existent outside of limited non-profits.

Recognizing the twin realities that "there is never enough money" and "there is no such thing as enough good help," she and Xavier launched a minimalist, hour-by-hour practice with a radical, sliding-scale approach. With Xavier still in graduate school, AshleyDawn started by renting a little office by the hour in Austin, driven by a simple philosophy: any payment for an hour of good help was a win-win for both her and the client.

The growth of Get Out of Your Head Therapy wasn't planned; it was the result of showing up for a single client in need. AshleyDawn and Xavier met in Waco and moved to Austin so Xavier could be closer to his university while he worked on his graduate degree. During that time, AshleyDawn was working full-time, managing the newness of Get Out of Your Head Therapy, and commuting to counties north of Waco weekly to earn extra money. AshleyDawn received an email from a former client she saw at a Waco non-profit. That person's plea for help spurred AshleyDawn to rent a sparse, hourly office in Waco, leading to an eventual second physical location for Get Out of Your Head Therapy. In that bare room with a folding chair and a couch from Goodwill, the mission was clarified: the quality of care mattered more than the setting.

Our Texas Roots

Xavier graduated and they decided to move back to Waco so they could be closer to their larger support network. They spent years commuting between Waco and Austin to maintain the growing offices. The demand exploded, validating their model. This grassroots beginning—from renting a couple of offices by the hour to expanding to multiple locations—was fueled by mission, not profit. Although their rapid growth led to valuable learning opportunities and plenty of mistakes, rising commercial real estate rates was the foe that eventually threatened their commitment to low-cost care. To protect their founding mission of providing care that people can afford, they made the decision to become a fully remote telehealth practice, proving that prioritizing accessibility means meeting the client where they are, both geographically and financially.

Xavier was born and raised in Texas. AshleyDawn was born and raised in California by two Texan parents. From their Texan parents, they learned the Texan values of being a person of your word and having grit. Xavier and AshleyDawn never imagined how hard it would be to uphold their mission. Facing countless challenges that threatened their viability, they learned the only way to fail was to quit. They kept walking, often bone-weary, because you—the client—were their fuel. Your lives and your need for excellent help are what ultimately made Get Out of Your Head Therapy what it is today.

We hope that we can provide the help you need. If we can't, then we commit to help you find the best help. You deserve to find your way to healing and wholeness.
